Aberrant melanoblast migration associated with trisomy 18 mosaicism.

چکیده
A patient is reported with mental retardation, facial and body asymmetry, and hyperpigmented areas limited to the right side of the body. Cytogenetic studies revealed trisomy 18 in 50% of peripheral blood lymphocytes; fibroblast cultures from the hyperpigmented area showed pure trisomy 18, while the karyotype on the unaffected side was normal. This could be an example of the 'lines of Blaschko', considered to be a form of 'human mosaicism', in which an abnormality occurred in melanocytes migrating from the neural crest. Non-disjunction of one chromosome 18 appears to be associated with the mutational event that caused abnormal migration of melanoblasts.

Origin and mechanisms of non-disjunction in human autosomal trisomies.
Chromosomal aneuploidy is one of the major causes of pregnancy wastage. In this review we summarize the knowledge about the origin and mechanisms of non-disjunction in human autosomal trisomies 8, 13, 15, 16, 18, and 21, accumulated during the last decade by using DNA polymorphism analysis. Maternal meiosis I non-disjunction is the most important single class, but chromosome-specific patterns e...
متن کاملComplete trisomy 14 mosaicism: first live-born case in Korea
Trisomy 14 mosaicism is a rare chromosome disorder characterized by delayed development, failure to thrive, and facial dysmorphism. Only approximately 30 trisomy 14 mosaicism cases have been reported in the literature because trisomy 14 is associated with early spontaneous abortion. We report a case of a 17-month-old girl with abnormal skin pigmentation, delayed development, facial dysmorphism,...

Trisomy 21 mosaicism in a woman with two children with trisomy 21 Down's syndrome* Summary. Trisomy 21 mosaicism was identified by fluorescent quinacrine banding in a phenotypically normal mother, who gave birth to two children with trisomy 21 Down's syndrome. Trisomy 21 Down's syndrome associated with maternal mosaicism was first described by Smith et al in 1962. Since then there have been at ...
متن کاملReport of a Case with Trisomy 9 Mosaicism
Trisomy 9 is a rare chromosome disorder with high neonatal mortality. It is often seen in mosaic form. Most patients who survive are severely mentally retarded. The main features of this syndrome are "bulbous" nose, microphthalmia, dislocated limbs, and other anomalies of skeletal, cardiac, genitourinary, and central nervous system. Most patients have developmental and cognitive impairment. Pat...

Double aneuploidy in which an extra sex chromosome coexists with autosomal trisomy was first reported in a child with trisomy 21 and XXY sex chromosomes (Ford, Jones, Miller, Mittwoch, Penrose, Ridler, and Shapiro, 1959); since then XXX trisomy 21 (Day, Wright, Koons, and Quigley, 1963; Yunis, Hook, and Alter, 1964), XYY trisomy 21 (Verresen and van den Berghe, 1965), XXX trisomy 18 (Uchida and...
